Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about using PropTally.
Getting Started
PropTally is a self-hosted portfolio tracking tool designed for proprietary (prop) firm traders. It lets you import trades, track performance across multiple accounts and firms, monitor payouts, and analyze your trading with detailed statistics and charts.
Yes. PropTally is completely free. There are no subscriptions, premium tiers, or hidden fees.
Create an account, then head to Import Trades to upload a CSV export from your trading platform (e.g. Apex, Rithmic, Tradovate). PropTally will parse and organize your trades automatically. You can also set up your prop firm accounts under My Accounts.
PropTally currently supports CSV imports from Apex/Rithmic and Tradovate. More platforms may be added in the future. If your platform exports a standard CSV with columns like symbol, P&L, open/close time, etc., it will likely work with the generic importer.
Accounts & Firms
Absolutely. You can add as many accounts as you want across different prop firms. Each account tracks its own trades, P&L, and statistics independently.
PropTally comes pre-loaded with popular firms like Apex, TopStep, FTMO, and others. You can also create custom firms with your own profit split, account sizes, and payout rules.
When you set a profit split percentage on an account (e.g. 90%), PropTally calculates your actual take-home P&L after the firm's cut. This is reflected in your payout projections and statistics.
Active accounts are included in your dashboard metrics and analytics. You can mark an account as inactive if you've stopped trading on it — its historical data is preserved but it won't appear in active summaries.
Importing Trades
Go to Import Trades, select your account and the CSV format (Apex/Rithmic or Tradovate), then upload your file. PropTally automatically detects columns, calculates trade direction, duration, and deduplicates any trades you've already imported.
No. PropTally generates a hash for each trade based on its key fields (symbol, time, P&L, etc.). If a trade has already been imported, it will be automatically skipped.
Currently, trades are imported via CSV. You can delete individual trades or reset all trades for an account if needed.
Analytics & Statistics
PropTally tracks total P&L, win rate, profit factor, average win/loss, best/worst trades, daily P&L, trade count, days traded, streaks, and more. All stats are computed per-account and can be viewed in aggregate across your dashboard.
MAE (Maximum Adverse Excursion) is how far a trade moved against you before closing. MFE (Maximum Favorable Excursion) is how far it moved in your favor. These help you understand if you're leaving money on the table or taking too much heat. This feature is currently being upgraded to use tick-level market data for precise calculations — coming soon.
The equity curve shows your cumulative P&L over time, plotted day by day. It also shows your peak equity and drawdown from peak, helping you visualize your account's growth trajectory.
The yearly activity heatmap shows your daily trading activity, with colors indicating profitable (green) or losing (red) days. It gives you a quick visual of your consistency and patterns throughout the year.
Payouts
Go to the Payouts section to log payout requests. You can record the amount, date, firm, and status (pending, processing, or received). PropTally tracks your total payouts received, pending amounts, and payout history by firm.
No. PropTally is a tracking tool only. It does not process, send, or receive any money. Payout tracking is for your own record-keeping — all actual payouts are handled directly between you and your prop firm.
Privacy & Data
All data is stored locally in a SQLite database on the server where PropTally is hosted. Your data never leaves your infrastructure — there are no external analytics, tracking pixels, or third-party data sharing.
Privacy mode blurs all sensitive financial values (P&L, balances, payouts) on screen. It's useful when screen sharing or streaming. Toggle it with the eye icon in the sidebar. You can hover over blurred values to temporarily reveal them.
Yes. You can delete individual accounts and their trades, reset all data for your profile, or delete your entire account from the Settings page. Deleted data is permanently removed from the database.
Customization
Yes. Go to Settings to choose from 50+ Google Fonts, adjust text size (small, default, large), and customize the accent color to your preference. Your choices are saved per-account and apply across the entire app.
You can set your preferred timezone in Settings. All trade times and daily P&L calculations will use your selected timezone, which is important for accurate daily breakdowns if you trade across different sessions.
Yes. The Shareables section lets you generate share cards with your trading statistics that you can download as images or share directly to social media.
