The Grain Complex

Agricultural futures are the oldest form of futures trading, dating back to the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) in the 1840s. Farmers and merchants originally used these contracts to hedge the price of their crops. Today, the grain complex — corn, wheat, and soybeans — remains one of the most actively traded commodity groups, driven by weather, government policy, and global food demand.
