Simple IS/OOS splitting has a limitation: you test on a single out-of-sample period. What if that specific period happened to be unusually favorable or unfavorable? Walk-forward analysis (WFA) solves this by testing across multiple sequential OOS periods, providing a much more rigorous validation.
